Michael Street

Founder, Owner, Coach

When one finds their strength, they find their purpose. My life purpose is coaching people to their strengths.

I am the owner and founder of Fulcrum Training Hall and have been a professional strength and performance coach since 2005. I worked as an engineer at Microsoft for ten years while simultaneously running a training business before turning my full attention to coaching. I have worked with thousands of clients and athletes and am known for my personalized and creative strategies for working with people from all walks of life.

My first real physical training started when I was a wrestler. I needed to become stronger, fitter and better than my competition. Under the tutelage of John Pat Bourassa (WISCA Hall of Fame Coaches and stunt double for John Wayne) using compound barbell movements and basic bodybuilding principles. John Pat became my first mentor and father figure. John taught me that anything was possible, and that I could train harder than I thought was physically / mentally possible. Thank you John.

I spent the early years of my coaching career traveling the country, teaching and coaching barbell training for physical therapists, trainers, coaches, and fitness enthusiasts. As part of the original coaching staff in the early days of CrossFit, I trained with Greg and Lauren Glassman at the original gym out of Santa Cruz, CA. and eventually owned one of the first affiliate gyms in the world (CrossFit Eastside, Redmond WA).

I started my own training and competing in Olympic Weightlifting with Mike Burgener (Burgener Strength), which changed my life and focus of training. Soon after, I became friends with Mark Rippetoe (Starting Strength) and was one of the first members of his seminar coaching staff, teaching strength training and certifying coaches for many years. Through Rip I met Jim Moser who has added much knowledge and influence to my coaching philosophies.

Since I draw my training philosophy from a wide range of modalities and approaches, I complied my learnings from being a coach-of-coaches and started an independent gym focused on strength and conditioning (Eastside Strength & Conditioning, Redmond WA). This first location was in business for 10 years before opening Fulcrum Training Hall.

While in coaching circles I am known for developing elite athletes and innovative strength programming rooted in science, I am equally proud of the longterm clients I have supported through all stages of life. Today I work with a broad spectrum of people, from individuals seeking physical and mental competence in competition, to people looking for physical independence and health as they age. I have coached Olympians, built national and world champions in weightlifting, and developed D1 athletes from scratch. I have also worked closely with people recovering from cancer and injury, youth athletes, and senior populations. The common denominator is that my clients are looking to be stronger and more resilient and I meet them where they are in their journey, and accompany them to through the next stages.

The intention behind Fulcrum Training Hall is to create a space for safely exploring barbell training. We have created a community built around a positive training environment with mutual support and respect for lifters of all types.

I believe that strength matters – for everyone – and that lives change under the tempering of the barbell. I focus on the concept that people are not strong or weak, simply trained or untrained. This foundational belief opens the gateway for anyone to study strength training and to choose who and what they wish to become.

Coach, Athlete

I discovered weight training in high school and this initial curiosity about the barbell has encouraged me to explore the sports of powerlifting and weightlifting, pursue professional certifications in the fitness industry, develop a clientele and career as a coach, and most importantly, learn more and more about myself from a place of love and care.

As an athlete, I am always learning more about myself. I have aspirations of competing in Olympic weightlifting at the national level. This pursuit of my own athletic career has been a fantastic journey of self exploration; the constant self-discovery keeps me excited about training day in and day out.

As a coach, I believe that stepping outside our bounds of comfort leads to a fulfilling and abundant life. I work to meet people where they are at, cater to their strengths, and guide them towards discovering new angles of their mental and physical capacity. Imagine what life would be like if we found comfort in the uncomfortable moments. What would happen if we embraced the wildness of learning something new? The barbell is a steady tool which allows us the time and space to pursue this self-development, and I am thrilled to be in this journey with you.
